How does "Automatic Update Detection Interval" works? WSUS 3.0
I know that running WUAUCLT/DETECTNOW will force the client workstation to start contact with WSUS for new updates even if I enable or disable "Automatic Update Detection Interval", the client workstation will initiate contacts with WSUS at certain time range as told in the microsoft article. The question that I have is that everytime when the user logs on hte network, regardless of the "Automatic Update Detection Interval" setting, will it automatically initiates contact with WSUS server for updates? Can anyone please help me out in this case? Thank you.

No, it will not. But if I remember precisely then it will contact the server in some time after the computer is switched on and if the detection interval elapsed while the machine was turned off. I cannot say for sure that whether or not it contacts the server straight away if the network is reconnected after being disconnected for a long period.
Re: How does "Automatic Update Detection Interval" works? WSUS 3.
If you want to have a client contact a WSUS server immediately to check for updates then follow the below steps:
- First of all try to stop the Auto update service - net stop wuauserv
- After that you need to delete the registry key for next detect time. (under HKLM\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate\AU)
- Now you have to start the Auto update service and then run "wuauclt /detectnow /resync"

Thanks for the replies, I will check it out as soon as I reached home.

You dont need to do the first 3 steps, all you need to do is this - wuauclt /detectnow
That will sort out the case for you.
Re: How does "Automatic Update Detection Interval" works? WSUS 3.
Even I agree that the first 3 steps are not at all necessary to be done and the 4th step is also not correct as it has an invalid parameter. The only solution that is required to initiate an immediate check for update is 'wuauclt /detectnow'. That will do the needful for you.
