Wireless Local and Internet connection but not web browsing
I am using many wireless and wired connections through the router that is going out to the internet without any problems. For example, I hav got Vista wired machine and XP wired machine and there are other few XP wireless connections as well. I have got a new HP laptop which is running on Windows Vista and I am getting some message that I have both local and internet connection, but if I go to browse like to this site then I will get either "address not valid" or "explorer cannot open this page." I am able to ping to anything with this same machines but? Any help would be appreciated.
Re: Wireless Local and Internet connection but not web browsing
It might be possible that you must have a security software like Norton or Mcafee antivirus installed on your computer that is blocking the Internet access. You can try to disable the same security software and see if that works for you or not, or try to allow the connections from other computer in the same software.

Thanks for the suggestions but it is not working for me. I have used many different browsers as well, like firefox and all, but that isnt working for me either?
Re: Wireless Local and Internet connection but not web browsing
Incase if the other pc's are able to surf internet then the issue is with your laptop only. So, first of all try to ping from your laptop and see if you get any response. Just go to Start and then in the Run box, type ping www.google.com, if you can ping then its the internet browser problem, try some different browser like Opera. If you cannot ping then try to reset the winsock settings by going into Start and then in Run box, type CMD. After that when CMD will open type netsh winsock reset cataolg and then restart the laptop and test again.
