USB 2.0 External Hard Disk is not detected by XP SP2
I’m using a Windows XP Computer with SP2 since past two years and it has never given me any problem. Recently I bought a brand new 120GB external hard Drive. When I connect the same with my computer nothing happens. I tried it in all USB ports but system is not detecting it at all.
I tried connecting the Hard Drive in 5 different computers and is detected as well as accessible. Then what’s the problem with my own computer? How can I fix it? Somebody please provide some solution. Thank you.

You tested your HDD on various computers but did you tried connecting any other USB device with your computer? Is it able to detect the same?

Thanks for the reply 1kshana. Yes other all USB devices are working on my PC. I already use MP3 players, 2 USB Flash drives. All of them work fine. One more thing I would like to say that I have one more older external HDD that was working fine with this computer two years ago when I was using Windows 2000 but that too stopped working since I installed XP.
What should i do now?

I heard situation like this for the first time. Usually if any USB device is recognized then the fault use to be in USB device itself and not the Ports. But here the situation seems very complicated. Who is the manufacturer of your Portable Hard drive? Which brand? Possibly there would be any registry key creating conflict.
