Media Player Install-ERROR 80070005
I was using Windows XP SP2 with Windows Media Player 10. Yesterday I thought to upgrade WMP to v11. I downloaded the setup from web and tried to install but it failed with “80070005 General access denied error”. I don’t know which Access it is talking about. If it is about system Admin privileges than am already logged as an Administrator of this system.
Anyways, as I wasted enough time struggling with this error, I thought to go back to WMP 10 which was working fine since a year without any problem. Surprisingly this system now wont allow me to revert back. It says:
“This application has failed to start because MFPlat.DLL was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem.”
Somebody please help.
Re: Media Player Install-ERROR 80070005
As the error says “MFPlat.DLL was not found”, did you checked whether it is available or not on your system? Please check it. It should be under system32 folders. c:\windows\system32\mfplat.dll.
Alternatively you can just restore your system to any previous restore point where you were using Windows Media Player 10.

Hello Tanvir. Thanks a lot for your reply. I searched that file in c:\windows\system32\ but dint found any named “mfplat.dll”. BTW, your second suggestion worked fine. I simply restore my computer 1 month back and everything seems to be working fine.
