Excel recovery after crash
Usually when are system gets shutdown, reboot or crashed, all our Excel files gets saved in C drive with option to recover on next backup, right? Yesterday I was working with my Excel Data file is saved on Network server. Suddenly my system crashed. I repaired/recovered my system but when I opened the same excel file there was no option to recover the unsaved file. I know this is because the recovery file use to be saved under C drive.
But in order to prevent such data lost again, I wanted to know if there is any option I can change this location from C drive to the same Network Server folder where I save all my other data along with this excel file? Thank you.
Re: Excel recovery after crash
I think you can do it simply by going to Excel > Tools > Option > Auto Recover Save Location. Just change the location and save. But let me tell you that according to me it would be bad idea to try to save autorecover files to network shares.
Re: Excel recovery after crash
I appreciate your response Taidje but can you please tell me why is it bad idea? Because I have heard from many tech guys that all important data should be saved on servers for security purpose. Even I feel that server is more secure place than hard drive for crucial data.
What makes you think it is bad idea?
Re: Excel recovery after crash
I feel so because the most common reason that makes your system crash use to be the loss of the network connection, having the temp file stored locally allows you to recover the file. Hence I don’t store anything on network but on my external hard drive.
