Shared resources and SharePoint
I have got a project portfolio stored on a SharePoint team site, and I will like to share resources from a resource pool. I am having Project 2003 without Project Server. The problem that I am facing is that if I try to share resources in any project stored on Sharepoint, then Project will give me an error message and tells "Project does not support resource pooling on a web server". When I am trying to save the MPP files to a local or network drive then pooling works fine but our enterprise requires the use of Sharepoint. Can anyone tell me a solution for this issue? Thanks.
Try the new Project Publisher
Give the new Project Publisher add-on a try by getting it from Projectpublisher website:
The Project Publisher for Microsoft Office Project allows you to collaborate with your teams by linking Microsoft Office Project to any Windows SharePoint Service 3.0 (WSS) or Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 (MOSS) workspace. Using the Project Publisher is fast and simple! Build your schedule or use an existing Microsoft Office Project plan, publish to your Microsoft SharePoint Workspace and share critical tasks, milestones, schedules and project information. It’s that easy!
Publish And synchronize your .mpp files to any SharePoint site
With Project Publisher, you can easily publish and synchronize Microsoft Office Project 2007 to any Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 site. Connect your .mpp files to existing project sites for greater team collaboration and coordination and stay in control.
Flexible Task or Assignment Based Publishing
The flexible Task or Assignment based publishing feature allows you to choose between Task-Based or Assignment-Based task publishing. This allows you to choose the status method best for your project team. Choose Task-Based Publishing option to allow any of the assigned resources to report the overall progress for each task assigned or choose the Assignment-Based Publishing option to allow all assigned team members to report task progress individually to drive overall task progress.
RE: Shared resources and SharePoint
It seems to me that you want to store the MPP file up on sharepoint and dont want to lose the ability to use resource pooling. I would recommend you to use the network drive facility in sharepoint because you mentioned resource pooling works properly on a network drive. I suggest you this because Sharepoint uses WebDAV, you can point Windows Explorer to a network drive on your SharePoint server.
Re: Shared resources and SharePoint
We are just migrating to Sharepoint, so I don't know all that it can do. I have learned, though, that we can't link project files if they are on Sharepoint. Does anyone know a way around this?
We have many projects that we link into one overall IMS. Project 2007.

Re: Shared resources and SharePoint
Unfortunately, the links have to be to a file address not a URL which is what Sharepoint uses.
I believe you'll need to store the consolidated project outside of Sharepoint.

Re: Shared resources and SharePoint
Thanks, Julie.
I was hoping you would know some magic! Someone told me they heard the next version of Sharepoint would allow the linking. Guess I'll have to wait and see.
Thanks again!
