I am having a laptop running windows Vista Premium and Office 2007, I have enabled auto updates but i am encountering error 'Code 80070663' when it is trying to install updates. I have no idea why update is getting failed, i have bought this laptop recently and i haven't made much changes in it. Can this be an issue with update? or there might be something else which is stopping updates from getting installed?
In that case you can try downloading and installing that patch manually from here. After downloading the patch, save it in c:\,open command prompt, type cd\ and hit enter. Now type "office2007-kb936960-fullfile-x86-glb.exe /extract:c:\patch" without quotes and hit enter again. When you get a prompt then click on yes, type "cd patch" without quotes and hit enter. Finally type "msiexec /p msxml5.msp /L*V C:\patch\office.txt /qb" withoute quotes and hit enter. Once the patch get installed close command prompt and reboot your system. If installation gets failed then check out for a file named office.txt in c:\patch. If you are able to open it then paste its contents in your nest post for further help.
I have tried following your solution techman but i am getting "The installation of this package failed" error message when i am trying to install it using windows update or manually using the patch you have mentioned. Is there anything solution that i can try out?? I have gone through some forums where similar issues are mentioned but i haven't come across any effective solution to get rid of that error and install the update successfully.
