Yes you can. You can always use RIS images when WDS server is set to mixed
mode.

We are off every other Friday, which is why I did not respond.
Installing on another server is not really feasible. What would I have to do
to reinitialize WDS? I would not want to break my exisiting RIS installations
images
I tried doing a conversion using wdsutil. I got the following error:

Error Code 0xC103012A
Fix-ups necessary for conversion could not be applied. The short name for a
file specified in the file's $SYSPREPSFN stream could not be applied because
the name was already assigned to another file in the same folder
--------------------
The folder that I was trying to create the wim file in is currently empty.
I have not been able to find any more information on how to resolve this
error.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I didn't find any similar problems. Can you try to convert an image file
with short name (which is in 8.3 format)? And, do you have the same problem
when convert images in MMC console?
Please le me know the detailed switches you used to convert image.

Hello Mike,
I couldn't find an error code list for wdsutil. And the list I have can't
explain the problem you have described. Regarding your post, you had two
different error code when converting two different images, I suggest we
re-initialize WDS and test again. If the problem persists, uninstall WDS
and re-install it on a clean server is recommended.

The process to reinitialize WDS is correct.
I consulted WDS team colleagues for error code 0xC103012A. It seems the
conversion routine returns this if it finds several files in the same
folder that have conflicting short names (stored in their alternate
streams) and is thus unable to apply the short names to these files. My
guest on such situation are accidently reserved office temporary files.
The time to build a test environment is more than I expected, I'll let you
know the result when I have one.

WDSutil hasn't a switch to do that. You can use Process monitor to see when
wdstuil fails, however since RIS image contains hundreds of files, wdsutil
may generate a very long log. Therefore, I suggest you to enable Process
monitor a few time before the error will appear.

I got to convert 2 legacy images, but I'm tried to convert others , but I have no success.
I tried to convert by WAIK and WDSUTIL but I had the same error as Mike. (It's the same problem and I had the same actions until now, but my ideas is over..)
Do you have idea How can to solve this?
