Error 1325 - 'File name' is not a valid short file name.

Need some urgent help for my newly installed Vista desktop. I did a clean format and installed Vista Home Basic on my old desktop. There was no problem during the installation but when I try to install any other software or program I get the following error message:

“Error 1325 - 'File name' is not a valid short file name.”

The error occurs also when uninstalling anything from Add and Remove Applet. I tried searching web for some help and found one saying to install and run Windows Installer Cleanup Utility. I was happy to get the solution but when I tried installing this utility, again I get the same error message as above.

Somebody please help.

It could be because of either some problem with system files or permission issue. Make sure you have all admin privileges and run the System File Checker to troubleshoot the problem.
