DriverStore - delete drivers
I need to remove some drivers for software that is now uninstalled these are
located in /windows/system32 but seem to be links to the
driverstore/filerepository - how do I delete the files that are causing a
problem
Even in safe mode with the administrator user I get an access denied
message.

RE: DriverStore - delete drivers
Software doesn't have drivers--hardware has drivers. To remove drivers,
remove the hardware. If you mean files instead of drivers, you need to be
more specific about what you are trying to do and exactly what problems you
are having.
Re: DriverStore - delete drivers
Sorry software DOES have drivers e.g. the print to file is a simple example
a firewall is another - there are many more
The drivers are located as stated and you cannot remove them because of
access denied messages. It also seems that there can be multiple versions if
the same driver - now I don't know if this is by design or because the
uninstaller left them there. The fact remains they cannot be removed without
some messing around.
The files are owned by the SYSTEM account and that is why even the
administartor cannot "play" with them howerever I have now found out what to
do and they are now history. To remove them you need to become the owner.

Re: DriverStore - delete drivers
Ray, can you reinstall the hardware? If yes, try this, reinstall the
hardware, then, open Device Manager in the System Applet in Control Panel,
scroll to the device, select it, right click, and select Uninstall Drive.
When the driver is removed, remove the hardware.
Re: DriverStore - delete drivers
Its NOT hardware.
If you run Vista take a look at the path I mentioned and then you will see
what Vista does with multiple versions.
Anyway as I said I have resolved my issue - Thanks
