Windows update failure.

I need a little help please.
Windows update module is having some problems. Automatic updates is trying
to install but i keep getting one of three messages. 1 install failed please
try again 2. 4 succecced 1 failed restart ( and than they all fail) 3.
succecced but on restart they fail. I have tried turning off firewalls,
antivirus, changing firewalls and antivirus ( using the new norton now).

I'm not an expert on Vista, but I don't like the look of that.

Try installing the latest version of the Windows Update client:

For 32-bit systems, download and save to hard disk, and then install:
<http://download.windowsupdate.com/v7/windowsupdate/redist/standalone/WindowsUpdateAgent30-x86.exe>

If this produces an error message about "Update agent already
installed", then execute the installer again manually, with parameter
/wuforce as in (at a comand prompt window):

WindowsUpdateAgent30-x86.exe /wuforce

Ok. I managed to install the updater but ran into some other problems.
Initially it had to download and install the update to look for updates which
continued to fail (80070643). It finally finds the 7 updates it is having
problems with but says it was sucessfull on 6of the 7 but all 7 fail
(0x80070643
). I did have the antivirus and firewall off. I am about ready to uninstall
office 2007 and redo the windows update installer.

Ok nothing is working. I have done all of your suggestions. I have even
uninstalled norton and office enterprise, checked the ose. I can not get the
windows update module to reinstall. the standalone updaters dont work. i
cant find a bad reg key( im not even close to knowing what to look for
though). Any further guidance would be appreciated. error codes range from
