DCPROMO to demote problem with TAPI3Directory...
I am having 1 Windows 2003 domain with AD and also 2 Domain controllers. I have installed a new server with new hardware and using the information on MS KB article, I promoted it to DC, and then moved all roles to it. If I am going to the old server, which was the first server in the domain, to run DCPROMO to demote it as a DC, I am getting the below:
"This DC holds the last replica of the following application directory partitions: DC=Tapi3directory (then contains domain name and DC= local)"
Can anyone tell me whether this is safe or not? Thanks.
RE: DCPROMO to demote problem with TAPI3Directory...
Actually the TAPI3Directory is used for IP and other telephony services, so it is safe to continue. To create a TAPI application directory partition
- Verify that the computer is a domain controller and that the Active Directory directory service is running.
- Open Command Prompt.
- At the command prompt, type:
tapicfg install /directory: PartitionName [/server:DCName] [/forcedefault]

Re: DCPROMO to demote problem with TAPI3Directory...
I would suggest you to make the application partition on some other DC and then replicate the partition from the old DC to a new DC and then remove the partition from old and then DCpromo out the old DC.
If you want to create a TAPI app partition then check the below article:

If you want to remove a TAPI app partition then see below link:

You can easily try to remove the application directory partition that is used to store AD-DNS. All you need to do is just delete the application directory partition and recreate it. There is also a very easy solution to it, just use the /forceremoval switch. You need to also cleanup the metadata after the fact and also follow the following method given in this link - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/216498
