Unable to Bring Quorum Disk offline
Hi , having a problem with the following - hope someone can help.
We are migrating data/2003 cluster from a cx400 to a cx340 and we
require to change the quorum drive from drive Q ( cx400) to drive O
( cx320) but when we bring all our resources offline ( fileshare) and
our Cluster name and Cluster Ip address all comes off line with no
problems. However we are unable to bring our Quorum Physical disk
offline so that we can change the drive letter to O ( our new cx340).
Does anyone know of how to bring this resource offline so that the
drive letter can be changed - When i attempt to bring it offline, the
following error message is displayed:
"'An error occured attempting to take the 'cluster group' offline
the cluster resource could not be deleted or brought offline because
it is the quorum resource
error id:5020 (0000139c)'"
Another method we thought of was taking the cluster offline and
renaming the drive letters. But does this cause a problem with the
disk signatures?
and another method we were thinking was to start cluster services in
\fixquorum switch - would this enable us to bring the quorum offline?
We have not attempted the above two methods yet as we require
downtime.
Any comments much appreciated.
Thanks
Re: Unable to Bring Quorum Disk offline
Try adding a second Quorum, that might allow you to bring the first one
offline. You cannot take the quorum offline and have a running cluster.

Re: Unable to Bring Quorum Disk offline
Kenny is correct. Add the LUN O: from the new SAN to the cluster and
make it a physical disk resource. Goto the top of the cluster
administrator tree and goto properties. I believe the 3rd tab gives
yo the ability to dynamically change to quorum to use a different disk
on the fly. Once the quorum is on another disk you should have the
ability to take the original disk offline and long as other resource
likes MSDTC etc are not pointing to that disk.

Thanks for that folks.
I have added a new physical Disk resource LUN O: and it now appears in
the drop down list of the Quorum tab on the Cluster properties.
If i move the quorum to the LUN O , I take it that the folder \MSCS is
moved to LUN O and LUN Q(the original can just be deleted) - Do I have
to move data (\MSCS) manually or is it moved automatically?
Also will the cluster go offline when I move the quorum from Q to O ?
Thanks for your help, Need to arrange some downtime to swap over/test.
Thanks
Re: Unable to Bring Quorum Disk offline
MSCS will rebuild the necessary files on LUN O: when you use MSCS to move
the quorum disk designation. It will also leave a copy on the Q: drive and
I'd suggest deleting this Q:\MSCS folder afterwards to avoid confusion.
Changing the quorum disk designation is an online change requiring no outage
to the cluster.

John
