Temporary Internet Files - Folder Location

Suppose you want to make backups of your C: drive or perhaps just the entire
contents of your Documents and Settings folder. Do you really want to
include the huge TIF folder? I don't. And since some of my backups are
scheduled to take place without manual intervention I cannot delete the
contents of the TIF folder every time I want to make a backup. What is the
solution?

My solution was to create another drive (I designated it T:) and relocate
the TIF to this drive. This worked really well until KB913768 came along.

There is no point in having a large TIF folder in the first place. You can
use the Internet Options to limit its size to 50MB. Anything more than that
gives rapidly decreasing returns.

Robin makes a fair point but that is still 50MB per user account, I think.
Until somebody comes up with backup software that can ignore designated
temporary files then I still believe it is right to relocate the TIF folder.

Sounds like a permissions problem? Try comparing the permissions of
the moved folder with the ones of the default TIF? E.g. use cacls
(in a cmd window.)

BTW which OS? AFAIK only Vista users are reporting this symptom.
If so you should try posting/cross-posting in a Vista newsgroup.
Be aware that many/most responders in the WU NG are not using Vista yet.

No, my problem is with Windows XP SP2. My two other computers, one running
Vista and one running XP SP2 , which both have the TIF folder in the default
location, are unaffected.

I'll try cacls (although I'm not really familiar with this command so it may
be trial and error).
