USB to IrDa device
Hello,
I'm running 64-bit Vista Business Edition and am looking for a USB to IrDa
device to use with my mobile phone.
When I was running XP Pro I used a MosChip MCS7780 device which was perfect,
but it doesn't work with Vista, and there are no drivers for it on the
manufacturer's site.
Can anyone please recommend a USB IrDa device which does work with Vista?
According to the HCL, there seems to be a choice between SigmaTel and Sony
Ericcson, but there's not much information...
Can anyone help?
Thanks,
DJ

Re: USB to IrDa device
I had the same problem as you - my old IrDA USB device wasn't compatible
with Vista.
However, I can confirm that this one most certainly is:

Vista sees it as a Sigma Tel USB-IrDA Dongle, so it's probably a rebadge
job - works perfectly, though, so who cares!
Not sure where you are, but I got mine here:

I have that same IrDa device also - hope someone finds a driver, the XP one
won't load.

Re: USB to IrDa device
Success!
Just purchased a Syba USB fast infra red adapter from PCI Micro
(excellent customer service). The generic driver disk that came with it
did not include Vista. However after the device was plugged in, the
computer automatically searched Windows update and after a few minutes
reported that the driver was successfully installed. I then used it to
sync my heart rate monitor with Polar Precision Performance Software.
No need to pay over 5 times the amount for the Polar USB adapter!

Re: USB to IrDa device
Thank you for your post. I got a Kingsun KS-959 and could not get it to
work with Vista Home Premium 32bit, SP1.
I found your post and got one. It worked. Vista found the driver and I
didn't even have to use the driver disk provided. YEA!!
Thanks for your post again.

Re: USB to IrDa device
Yes, That's what I said. Thanks to your post, I got the one you listed -
Syba USB - and it worked. The Kingsun KS-959 did not.
BTW: Vista found it as - SigmaTel USB-IrDA Dongle
