Vista Explorer Crashes When opening Folder containing Vector files
I have several Adobe products installed on my Windows Vista such as Adobe Photoshop, Adobe reader, etc. And due to this I think I have folder sized 170Mb containing about 995 files of Vector EPS. That’s fine but when I try to open this folder suddenly Windows Explorer crashes. I tried opening this folder more than 10 times but the same problem every time. Surprisingly if I open Photoshop and try to open this folder by browning still the explorer crashes.
What could be the reason? Do I have any virus residing in that folder or any file is corrupted? If yes, how can I deal with both virus or Corrupt file? Or is it like Vista cannot handle a folder containing so many files? For more details, I am posting the Event Viewer Log here:

Re: Vista Explorer Crashes When opening Folder containing Vector files
Nope, neither there is any problem with Vista cannot handle large files, nor there is any corrupt file. Most probably the problem with be some buggy icon thumbnail handler installed by Illustrator. You should try disabling thumbnails. Hopefully it will work.
Re: Vista Explorer Crashes When opening Folder containing Vector f
Thank you very much for the help Ullas. I tried your suggestions but unfortunately that dint worked. Any other solution please?
Re: Vista Explorer Crashes When opening Folder containing Vector f
Just try out the following, hopefully it should work. Open any other folder, go to Tools and click Folder Options. Click View and select Reset All Folders. By doing this explorer aill automatically fix 80% of corrupt settings. If still it wont fix the problem then open that particular folder again and let the Explorer crash.
Once it is crashed, open Command Prompt as an Administrator. The following Command followed by Administrator.
"tasklist /m /fi "imagename eq explorer.exe""
This will give you the list of files providing code to Explorer at that moment. See if any aren't from microsoft.
Re: Vista Explorer Crashes When opening Folder containing Vector f
In order to make sure the problem is not with the folder's size issue, you can open a command prompt window to the folder and temporarily 'break' the file association via:
ren *.EPS *.EPSX
If the folder opens fine then surely it is not the problem of size but with any specificfile association. You can undo the break by typing:
ren *.EPSX *.EPS
Re: Vista Explorer Crashes When opening Folder containing Vector files
I've recently been through a similar scenario. Any folders containing ai or eps files would crash explorer when I tried to open them.
In my case it was down to a trial version of the paid for MysticThumbs thumb viewer. Or rather, after its removal. Using a registry search I eliminated any keys referencing either MysticThumbs or IAM Games. I then cleared my thumb caches through the disk clean up utility and re-booted. I could then open the folders and access my files again without crashing explorer/photoshop/illustrator.
Hope that is of some help.
Re: Vista Explorer Crashes When opening Folder containing Vector files
Something recently installed that integrates into the context menu as Winrar, Daemon Tools. If you have recently installed something, simply uninstall again and see if the problem persists. Have the same problem, the Vista Explorer keeps crashing when I click on a file / folder right click. Use Vista Home Premium 32bit and in the context menu is really just anti-Vir as an extension, but this has never been otherwise problems, winrar I've even installed, but not in the context menu of Explorer
