Vista error 80070020
I cannot get all my windows updates to install or download for that matter. I
get error code 80070020, I was advised to shut off Bitdefender and the
firewall, I did, shut them both down. Still cannot download, cannot seem to
find a solution to error code 80070020. It seems Microsoft doesn't want to
help much either, it seems this new laptop with the easy Vista Premium is not
that special. Help please if anyone knows. Thanks XP was better !!!

And I also use BitDefender. I think that it is the problem with the combination of BitDefender/Vista... I'll try ti find the solution. Will post it.
if you will dissable bitdefender antivirus it will let you install updates.
It worked for me.
Thanks guys, I didnt know the problem was related to bitdefender before i
saw this thread.

Re: Vista error 80070020
Hey guys, I have had this problem-inability to get the windows updates-for a few months now. I have gone from Bitdefender to McAffee and back.
I paid iyogi a chunk of money and they were unable to help me with this.
They finally said I would probably have to reinstall Vista.
If anyone finds out the answer to this quandry, please drop me an email.
Thanks

Re: Vista error 80070020
What was their analysis?
The error means
<cmd_output OS="XPsp3">
E:\>net helpmsg 32
The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process.
</cmd_output>
So disabling and stopping a process (not just disabling it) would be
a good idea *if* you know that's the right one.
So, far in this 2 year old thread nobody has given any details
to know what the circumstances are which produce the error code.
However, I suspect that you won't all be trying to install the same
update. ; }
Good luck

Re: Vista error 80070020
Thanks for the reply Robert. iyogi told me that they believed some of
my files had been corrupted but they were not sure by malware
or what.
