Wireless Connection says local only (Vista)
I recently bought a new HP Satellite laptop with Windows Vista pre-installed. tried connecting it with my Home Wireless Network which is already running one XP laptop. Though Vista connects the laptop, but it says “Limited Connection” and “Local Only”. I don’t know what could be the problem because Xp is running fine with the same router and same wireless network.
However when I connect my Vista laptop to my neighbors Linksys wireless, it connects fine and allows me to browse internet. Than where is the problem? If the problem is with Vista laptop then it should not connect with my neighbor’s network as well, right? And if the problem is with router then how come my XP laptop is working fine?
This is very annoying and confusing. Can someone please help me out of this? Many thanks.
Re: Wireless Connection says local only (Vista)
Most probably such problem may occur due to broken dhcp as it is the one which assigns a temporary IP to all the devices which are connected on the network. If this ip fails to appear the error comes on the screen. So try adding the IP address and DNS manually.
Also make sure you don’t have any third party Firewall installed on your system. Especially if you have Norton or any Symantec programs, you must uninstall it immediately because there are well known to create network problems in Vista.
