Re: Error Code 80070103 on Vista Home Premium
H there,
Any excperienced user knows to never take driver updates from WU unless blue
screens or other problems are appreciated.you like problems.
Download the appropiate driver at Intel that is if your hardware is not
working properly: if it ain't broke do not try to "FIX" it.
You can try rolling back on your driver or system restore in safe mode to a
date before the problem occured .
Good luck.
Best regards,
Michel Denie

As smart as you THINK you are.. and definatley a cocky one... i recieved this
error code during a AUTOMATIC vista update. Now, if you have any useful info
on how to solve the error then post.. otherwise we don't need your
know-it-all comments.

Re: Error Code 80070103 on Vista Home Premium
Hi there.
Well as you are saying automatic update: turn it off unless you want to
have problems re-occuring by drivers being installed which any excperienced
user has learned never to take from MS update.
And as to your remarks about my person: your thoughts tell more about you
than they tell about me: as they are yours;)
The advice given was freely, up to your likings to take some free good
advice or to just ignore it.
Best regards,
Michel denie

Error Code 80070103 on Vista Home Premium
I have just got the recent update for the intel chipset, and had the same error. And as an "experienced user" I have always used MU drivers, because they are usually tested and are known to be fully functional, where sometimes on the manufacturers site, the recommended drivers are beta. the "if it isnt broken dont fix it" should not apply, that is the whole point of an updated driver, it is to add aditional functionality to your hardware, or to fix a fault, whether you notice it or not.
As probably everyone who has read this thread has seen that no one really wants to see something like "any experienced user would know" it sounds a little rude.
i am actually looking for the answer myself, but my plan is actaully to wait, or try a driver from the intel site, and since the install actaully does fail. then there isnt really any harm done, that is if I am having the exact same problem. I think if you do have a problem with any driver from Microsoft update, which you really shouldnt, then just roll back if it does install, and try the manufacturers site
Re: Error Code 80070103 on Vista Home Premium
As one who a) DOES generally have a clue, and b) DOES allow Windows Vista to
auto-update my computer, can I refer you to a post which I found helpful:
search for "Update Error 80070103 Synaptics PS/2 Port Touch". That outlines
the suggested steps for getting rid of this issue.
Can I suggest that the whole idea behind auto-updates is aimed at people who
DO NOT have a clue, therefore if updating drivers causes errors, Microsoft
should not be delivering them via this medium, and you shouldn't be being
rude to people who are performing a task that any normal IT professional
should have expected MS to test thoroughly!!

Re: Error Code 80070103 on Vista Home Premium
It's been suggested that MS provide a *notice* of when an updated driver
is available and that it should link *directly* to the 3rd party vendor.
Then said vendor takes the blame for issues caused by said update
instead of MS.
The *only* reason MS should directly distribute 3rd party driver updates
is when a *Critical security vulnerability* exisits.
Otherwise, just provide a notice and direct URL.
