I am facing problem with IIS on Windows Vista. I am not able to get HTTP server work properly and it keeps on giving me error while working. Each time when I start work on network or some services that access internet I am getting a error that IIS has stopped working. I cannot find what is causing the issue. I am not able to find any working solution for the same. The web server service fails to work properly. I need some help here to deal with the issue. Is there any way to fix the same.
I am also facing the same issue on my system. It is in Windows Vista only. The IIS version use din in that is 7.0. Each time when I try to work I am getting the same error popup everytime. I am not able to fix the issue. There is a constant error each time when I am trying to work. Later on I check in event viewer where in logs I found that there is a issue related to ntdl.dll. Is anyone aware about the same. How to replace it and get a appropriate solution for the same.

If (Just installed PHP/MySQL) ---> Try disabling UAC and installing php to C:\inetpub\php enable sharing on C:\inetpub then reenable UAC
you might want to try adding the inetpub folder as shared, and also giving IIS users full permissions. I am suffering from the same crashes you are, and the post right above me gave me an idea to try this. I have a compaq, and I am guessing you do also. We'll see what happens. No crash yet. *crosses fingers*
Try to run System restore and then check back. If that is also not working then best thing is to re-install back from scratch. IIS service is necessary for some application which are working on databases. Vista also offers you to run a repair setup through which some invalid system files are replaced. It is necessary that you must replace the system files which are not appropriate and which are causing the failure. Installing windows from scratch is one of the best way to deal with the issues lies this.
Not to start any flame wars towards Microsoft, but there has been all sorts of crappy things they have done lately. Vista won't print to a pdf printer, and a new one had to be coded to work within a vista system (named Bullzip), and it's free, so that's sweet. They also created this new *.docx format that can't be read in previous versions of microsoft office (prior to the new 2007). Good marketing move, horrible move in general however.
They also are trying to currently sue the pants off of a few open source companies. Do I smell evil? Now magically, there are server conflicts with apache, and php that aren't easy to fix. Proprietary based sabatoge? Possibly.
I'm having this issue too, and I'm using an self-built system, so I guess it has to do wih software, and I think I know something:
IIS creates one "master thread" that listens for new connections on port 80, and when it receives a new connection, it creates a new thread(an "IIS worker process"), that handles that connection from then on(you can see this is iis manager(start -> run -> inetmgr -> ok) -> worker processes), but I guess the shutdown of those worker processes isn't going good, I'll try some things with configuration etc, and will tell you when I succeed ;)
think I found it out: it is IIS Worker Process Recycling, and I also found out how to configure it so that it does this only at 0:00 every day(you have to do it at least once a day, else your memory will become reeeeeally full, and more often with bigger sites), this is how to configure it for other recycling options:
- open iis manager(windowskey+r(run) -> inetmgr -> ok)
- Click on Application Pools in the menu on the left
- Rightclick DefaultAppPool
- Click Recycling
- Clear all checks except Specified times
- Set an time for the restarting(expect the IIS Worker Process Stopped Working message on this specified time)
- Click next -> finnish
- Repeat step 3 to 7 for all Application Pools
- Click your computer-name on the left menu(the highest node)
- Click Restart under Manage server(can be found under Actions on the right)
