I am using Sony MSAC-US1 in my XP system. It is simple memory stick drive that comes with usb connectivity. Now I had bought a new Vista laptop. When I connect that drive it is detected by Vista and New Hardware Install Wizard popup. But after sometime the drive failed to installed. There is no driver available in Vista. It looks it is a bit complicated to install the same in it. On restart still nothing worked out. I can see unknown devices in Device Manager.
Try to install that manually. You can find the right drivers through Windows Update. This kind of device are basically plug and play. Vista has certain compatibility problem with usb devices. There is nothing you can do. You have to check properly and find what actual driver the memory stick drives need.
I am facing the same kind of issue on my Acer TM8125 notebook. I am using Vista Ultimate on the same. My pen drive suddenly stop to detect in Vista, while it works well on Windows XP. So to some extent this can be a driver problem. If there was a hardware issue then the same must not work in other OS.
