I am using Windows Vista for the first time. It is a Ultimate edition. Whenever I install some new software, it creates a restore point on its own. But last time I tried to create the same manually. When I did that I received a error on my screen about the same. It was -- The Restore point could not be created for the following reason: Windows cannot create a shadow copy due to internal error in other system components. for more information view the event log. (0x81000109) Please try again.
Go in Event Viewer and check which file is causing the issue. Bluescreen are serious error which are caused due to failed internal component. You must run some fresh Windows Update. It will help you to fix the problem. I will also advice that if this error is constant it is much better you must run system recovery. It will wipe out the old files and put back fresh one.
It is better if you avoid creating system restore or simply run a fresh Windows setup. This is will help you in many ways. There is no way available by which you can re-install the entire application back again. I think there are bad sectors in your drive. Especially in the C drive. You must check that properly. Run chkdsk first and then sfc /scannow through cmd.
This are serious bugs and cannot be ignored. They can cause major crash in your system. I faced a issue related to some memory caching. I made number of changes but nothing worked. The error number that I was getting was 0x81000109. I found some solution by disabling memory caching from bios. But it failed. The system once faces bluescreen becomes unstable. You cannot put your data on risk. It is always better to format and install fresh Windows.
I am really not happy with Windows Vista. I found the system a bit buggy with drivers and other applications. At start while installing a new applications, restore point is created automatically. I tried to restore my system to an older date. I was getting error on launching any application. The restoration crashed. I checked the driver and found hundreds of new errors on it. I think Vista has spoiled my hard dive. Before I was using Windows XP and everything was working quiet well.
Just run system recovery. Do not waste time in locating solution that might not work. My system crashed when I had updated driver of Nvidia gpu in my system. I thought it is compatible and will work well. But the scene was entirely different after setup. System recovery, restored all the old drivers on which only my system worked. It is also a Vista 64bit system. I had seen many threads based on bluescreen and they were mostly related to 64bit version of Vista.
This is an older thread but I read through the whole thing and didn't see any similar info so I thought I'd add to the fray. When trying to create a system restore point, I bombed with the same error message. I checked my disk mgmt and found my externally attached USB disk was there, but not recognized with a drive letter assigned. I unplugged the drive, and tried to create a restore point again, and it worked. My only concern here is does this mean I'm always going to have to unplug my USB external drive(s) when I want to run system restore? (-too there's the automatic restore points).
I too was getting error 0x80073bc3 from ASR Writer in SPP and VSS's logs in Event Viewer when I was trying to do a backup, for me on Windows 7. I ended up having to change my BIOS's HDD boot order, so that my Windows disk is first, and the disk I'm backing up to is second. It used to be that a third disk, with an EXT3 volume on it, was first in the BIOS's boot order. I also had to fix GRUB afterwards. I have the most recent BIOS for my motherboard. I've also uninstalled an installable EXT3 file system driver I had, but I don't know if that did anything.
