I just got a new laptop this morning. It is an HP Pavilion dv2210us and has

won't even detect wireless connections in Panera Bread or at my University.
Does anyone know why?

Does it have a key to turn on the wireless antenna? Most laptops with
built-in wireless have a way to turn it off and on to save on battery life
when it's not needed.

It does have a switch on the front. However, I've tried turning it off and
on. When I turn it on a pop-up comes onto the screen saying "WLAN: On".
And, on the HP Wireless Assistant "Wireless LAN" shows up as "On". When I
try to detect networks though, it says nothing can be found.

I would assume so since the wireless card is built in. In the HP Wireless
Assistant "Wireless LAN" shows up as "On", but when I try to detect a
connection, nothing comes up. However, I'm sitting in my University Library,
so I know there should be a wireless connection.

What Firewall program did it come with? I know when using Microsoft
Onecare - everything is locked up tight.

Never assume, check device manager and confirm.

I am experiencing the same problems with my new HP Pavillion dv 2000. I can
not get the wireless connections to display my current wireless network. I
have a windows xp that connects just fine but the vista will not. I have
turned the firewall off and have checked the device manager to make sure the
wireless card was installed properly. I am at a loss. Any advice would be
greatly appreciated.

Other than routine wireless configuration things... have you tried clicking
on the "Update Driver" tab on your wireless NIC in Device manager?

Is the wireless enabled in the Bios? and does the wireless require a key
entered from the existing wireless router or is it automatically detected?
Call HP if the system is new and have them walk you through it when all else
fails. It's easier than the frustration and it's under warranty if it's new.
Good Luck

I have a HP Pavilion DV6152eu with wireless built-in. it came with XP media Center, but I made an upgrade to Vista Home Premium. My laptop was working well with wireless for aprox 1 month. but then I was unable to see any wireless network. the front wireless/bluetooth switch is "ON" the wireless device is properly installed, drivers are ok because like I said it was working with vista and wireless aprox one month.
The fact is that before when I used to turn my laptop on I could see on the task bar the bluetooth icon with a pop-up showing me: "bluetooth : on" "wireless : on". Now what I just see is "bluetooth : on". I re-intalled vista again and updated all the drivers but the trouble persists. after one week using wired connection my wireless magically appeared again. but after few days it has gone again.... any idea why?
I hope you can help me.
Thanks!
im using the hp pavilion dv2000, and i can get wireless internet fine at home-
what i had to do was manually set up the wireless connection (through the network connection center), and input all of the data. A few points about it, the home connection i was setting up was secured, the type was WEP...
So i get internet at home-- it's weak, but it works, occasionaly it cuts off but it reconnects quickly enough that i think it's an issue at the other side, not with the computer.
However, when i'm here at school, i connect to the school's wireless network and it says "connected, access Local" - i get a local connection but cannot access the internet. (right now im using an ethernet cable).
I hope my information helps some of you, and ihope i can get some help with my issues. and i hope this was the right thread to post this in :-)
Talk to the school IT department and they will give you the set up info.
