Option 135 not available in DHCP Scope Options
Hello,
We have a Windows 2003 server running DHCP services and want to add option
#135 Domain suffix search order, but it does not show up as an option. On our
other two 2003 servers it does show up, and I was able to add entries with no
problem.
What can be wrong?
Thanks,
Jim
RE: Option 135 not available in DHCP Scope Options
Hi,
Thanks for posting.
According to your post, I understand that you have some concerns on the
additional DHCP options. If I am off-base on that, please let me know.
Based on my research, DHCP option 132-136 are not default options. From the
following link, you will find that the DHCP option 132-136 is not defined
in RFC document. I checked the Windows Server 2003 SP1 computers and they
are not included as default options too. So they are vendor specific
options.
For currently available DHCP options (some are not adopted in Microsoft
DHCP Server), pleaser refer to:
http://www.networksorcery.com/enp/pr...tp/options.htm
So, to create these non-default DHCP options, you can do the following:
1. Click "Start", point to "Administrative Tools" and then click "DHCP".
2. Right-click the DHCP server, and then click "Set Predefined Options".
3. Click "Add".
4. Type options' name, option code, select a Data Type such as IP address
or String, if the data type is binary or encapsulated, you should select
the Array option.
5. Click OK and then go to Server Options or Scope options to configure the
option.

RE: Option 135 not available in DHCP Scope Options
Vincent,
Ok, I was able to create the new DHCP option using your instructions.
However, I know for a fact this was not necessary on the other two servers.
After adding the option I noticed that the icon is different than for the
other options. Should I be worried about this?

Not very sure because based on my experience there is no such known issue
like that. I suggest you monitor this situation for a period.
Thanks.
