The following updates were not installed KB923689

Some updates were not installed. The following updates were not installed. Security Update for Windows XP(KB923689)

Status is;
Installation Failure
Error code 0X8007000D
Try to install update again, or request help from the following resources.

This update keeps requesting to be installed from the Windows Update Site. All other Dec. updates installed fine. It also fails on another test machine using WSUS. Both machines have XP with SP2 installed.

Microsoft needs to fix this update.

I've had 12 of my test group machines install that update just fine.

You may need to fix your network.. it may not be them. What does the windowsupdate.log file say near the bottom?

I am also experiencing the problem deploying via WSUS. The windowsupdate log indicates an error downloading the update. The same errors are happening on all five of my test machines. Other updates (specifically KB925454) have downloaded and installed successfully.

Sounds like there is a good chance the downloaded package is corrupt. Decline the update and run WsusDebugTool.exe /Tool:PurgeUnneededFiles then re-approve the update (or simply delete the files from the WSUS store). Then run WSUSUTIL reset see http://technet2.microsoft.com/Window....mspx?mfr=true

On the client you may need to delete the SoftwareDistribution folder to remove any already downloaded corrupt version.

I don't think the currupt download package since it is installing on other computers jjust fine from the same WSUS Server. It is also failing when I manually install it from the Windows Update site on these machines. I have deleted the pachage form the c:\windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download folder on these machins and it still fails. All though I can run it manually from the c:\windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download folder and then it installs. But there are way to many computes for that to be the answer.

I am also having the same problem. I am using WSUS 3.0 Beta 2 and at least half of computers have failed on install of KB923689. This prevents any other updates waiting for the PC to install. I've manually downloaded the update from microsoft, installed it on the PC but still cannot get the other waiting updates to download and install.

Is anyone any closer to a resolution?

The WSUSUtil and the WSUSDebugTool seems to have solved my problems. I was able to deploy the patch to the rest of my fleet with no problems. Must have been a currupt package. The link below explains how to run these utilities. I think WSUS 3 Beta has a utility to do this too.
