XPost: Dual monitor problem intel 82852/82855 chipset/video card

I am using a Dell Latitude D400 laptop and have the same chipset mentioned in the title of this topic. I am running Windows Vista on it without Aero feature. The problem with it is that only the internal monitor is working even after checking the "Extend the desktop onto this monitor" and "This is my main monitor" for the second (external) monitor. This used to work fine in Windows XP but not anymore in Vista. I have tried looking for some driver on the Intel website but cannot find it. Is there any fix to this problem?

After some research I was able to find a solution for this problem:

• When you have Vista installed on your computer then it will use the microsoft supplied drivers for the Intel graphics. So you should not install any drivers for your dell machine at this moment first.
• Now, when you have set up everything and all is running fine then download the graphics drivers from the Dell website, it will be termed with the name R111509.exe.
• Execute this file and it will start to extract its file to C:\Dell\ path.
• You have to now find the setup.exe in the last subfolder of C:\Dell\ and set its compatibilty mode to Windows XP service pack 2. This can be achieved by right clicking on the file and selecting properties and then the compatibility tab.
• Simply, just install the drivers by double clicking on the SEtup.exe file.
• After that restart the computer and then Vista will tell you that the drivers are installed but will take 2-3 minutes.
• You will be now able to use the display settings and can set it as per your choice. You will also get the option to switch between them using the FN + F8 keys.
