Trying to use a Sony PCVA-IR5U IR receiver and RM-GP5U remote
Last month I bought a Sony Vaio laptop that came pre-installed with Windows XP but without Media Center. I also got SB IR receiver (PCVA-IR5U) and a remote control (RM-GP5U) with this laptop that works fine with Sony Gigapocket software. Now I bought one more new laptop, its Dell that came with Media Center Edition but without TV Tuner card or remote.
So, as I already have Receiver and Remote with SONY which I rarely use, I thought to configure them both with Dell Media Center. Here is the problem. So far I’ve tried almost everything I know and suggestions I found on web to configure remote and receiver with Dell MCE but nothing worked. I even uninstalled and re-installed drivers, shorting the remote, DVD button + 1, etc. but all with no success.
Need help regarding the same? Thank you.
Re: Trying to use a Sony PCVA-IR5U IR receiver and RM-GP5U remote
Hello Lindberg, first of all you should be aware that all Remotes are not designed to work with Media Centers. It has a list of compatible remotes to work with. So I guess the one you have is not made for MC and hence it's not sending the commands that media center is expecting.

Hi , sorry to dig up an old thread, but i also have this remote and receiver. Is it possible to use the receiver on a vista machine using a Harmony One remote?
I have tried plugging the receiver in, which installs the drivers but cant get any thing on the Harmony to work
