ATAPI.SYS BSOD 0x0000007A & 7E

I am facing serious bluescreen on my pc. I am unable to find any solution for the same. The system works fine for some time but it simply crashes with KERNEL_DATA_INPAGE_ERROR error on the screen. There was a really long error code. The system just restarted after that. Later on I found that the problem lies with ATAPI.SYS. I tried ran system restore here but that did not helped much. The system just works for few minutes and it crashes. It is so annoying. Can anyone guide me here to fix the issue.

I had also gone through the same kind of problem here. I was just trying to install a video card on my pc. It is a pci card. After connecting it windows showed me a new hardware found wizard on the screen. Now when I try to install the drivers the system crashed. I had downloaded fresh drivers from the official manufacturer's page and updated the drivers which resolved the issue. In your case also there can be some problem with the motherboard and defective hardware. It is essential that you must simply update the drivers and then check back.

Restart your pc in safe mode first. The launch cmd from Start > run and type sfc /scannow and hit enter. This will resolve the issue you are facing. SFC will simply scan your pc for damaged or corrupt system files and replace it. Bluescreen commonly appears due to hardware fault also. That is due to ram. You can download some memory testing software and check the ram for error. If you found any just replace the ram sticks and then test back again.

I looked at those stop error sites... none of those help me at all..... as of now i will reseat all cards and check for unsigned drivers.. but what else can i do? those websites about stop errors wont help me.. they only specify specific situations that dont appy to me. What is the rated wattage of your power supply unit? Sometimes an over-taxed PCU can cause error messages. 500 watts.... that ok ? Are you seeking help or offering advice? also you might have a nasty program called securom on your pc it caused my pc to crash all the time until i reinstalled windows

I had the exact same problem with an Acer Aspire 5100 with XPx86 (32-bit) SP3. At first the machine wouldn't even boot up and the guys from a computer repair shop said the motherboard is fried. I was able to start from a linux usb stick and reformatted the entire disk. XP was reinstalled, but this time round BSOD's would appear claiming kernel_inpage_error or atapi.sys fatal error blabla. I noticed that the "r" on the keyboard didn't work so for the fun of it I took the keyboard out to see if there were any obvious damages. Supposedly it was a faulty contact in the keyboard generating invalid IRQ's or some internal bus conflict of that nature. However, long story short message: Disk errors can be related to faulty hardware. Strip the machine to a minimum and observe if the error persists.

Fou guys are quite a cool group... constructive advise and good references. The error has disappeared since I extracted the keyboard. It has not crashed on me for about 5 days and I'm using a usb keyboard. Unfortunately the HDD make is toshiba and they dont provide any tools. I tried using SMART monitors and CHKDSK but they didn't report anything. Thanks for the help anyway.

Try to post the full error message here. That is simply only best way to fix the problem. When you post the full error message it becomes more easier to identify the issue. It is right that most of the bluescreen error just appear due to ram. So it is recommended that you must test the ram first and then checkout for the problems. It is quiet necessary that you must simply disconnect additional stuff connected to your pc. Like a printer or any other stuff just disconnect the same and then check back.
