Find the MSXML_.DLL in your \Windows\System32 (or \WINNT\System32 ) folder.
You may find more than 1 xml.dll files, which is fine.
Use Windows Explorer, locate your file, highlight it and do a RIGHT-Click. Select Properties and then Version.
Verify the version of msxml4.dll matches the "post MS 06-061" listed at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/269238/
For my XP system, with XML 4, that's msxml4.dll with version 4.20.9839.0
That /is/ the result after the latest update.

The update applies to several o.s. and to Office related products.
It applies to Windows XP, Windows Server 2003, Windows 2000 (selected editions), Microsoft XML Core Services, Microsoft Office Standard Edition 2003, Microsoft BackOffice Small Business Server 2000 SP1

Try this. (Hope its not too late..)
1. Download the Windows Install Clean Up Tool from the link below:
http://download.microsoft.com/downlo...bd/msicuu2.exe
2. After downloading this file, please install the tool.
3. Run the tool from start menu -> all programs -> Windows Install Clean Up.
4. In the list, look for an item that says Microsoft XML Core Services 4.0.. Click on the entry and click remove. (It may not be there)
5. After removing the file, restart the PC and run Windows Update again.
