how about a simmilar guide for processors.....
I've got a plain vanilla factory overclocked 6800 :ohyeah: 128 MB from abroad for Rs. 11450 (thats at current exchange rates). And BTW, the 6600GT comes in at $199 as does the x700. 50 dollars is a fair amount of money bub.
Oh, and I prefer ATI, but there is nothing to bridge the price and reformance gap between the x700($200) and the x800Pro ($350 up). So back to nVidia. And for all those doubting toms, my friend is running a Sapphire 9600XT 256MB and it kicks ass. No reviews, no I heard it somewhere. This I've seen myself.
thanks for the beautiful guide
Well its no longer beautiful :). Gotta update it since there are lots of new cards (6600,x700,6200) that came up since I wrote this guide. It also doesn't make a distinction between PCI-E and AGP which is pretty necessary now.Quote:

(Moderators pls excuse duplicate posting as i don not have much time left at my hands!! I've to go and buy the card 2moro itself as my system is currently without any VGA! .)
My system specs are :-
P4 1.6Ghz,
512 MB SDRAM,
A Biostar/Krypton Intel 845, SOCKET 478 chipset MOBO
(M7TDA-A003 MODEL NO.)
I need to know what would be the best card under 4000 bucks i can get here in delhi. wht Should i choose b/w nvidia and ati, and what models?
keep in mind tht my system would support the 4X mode only.

Pls don't dissapoint as i have only 2 days , today & tommorow to decide...
So u guys, do help me out here, and any and all suggestions would be considered whn i go to buy the card 2moro.
Bye 'n Thnx!!
I say go to BBC office at 312,bajaj house ,nehru place,97.I
got myself a 256mb 5700 le for 6.2k-not bad considering that this is
India.Got it to run at 432/504 as good a plain fx 5700.
A 64-bit card has half the memory bandwidth of a 128bit card and so cant play
games at good detail levels/higher res.A 64-bit card will cause probs even in
800*600 in games like doom3.And btw dont get a 5700le 128mb version coz its
64-bit.
Equivalently, lets say ur video ram runs at 400mhz so,
in 64-bit bus,bandwidth=64*400/8=3200mbytes/sec(3.2gbps)
in 128-bit bus,bw=6.4gbps
in 256-bit bus,bandwidth=12.8gbps
This is general info I posted on a related query.
Anyway cominng to the point: up ur budget by 2k and get this card,256mb 5700le.U can get a powercolor radeon 9550 buts its build quality is very poor as compared to xfx i.e. very small heatsink and cheap no-name ram.Xfx on the other hand uses a good cooler and hynix/samsung rams.
@ chetan_khurana
best bang for buck card these days is the radeon 9550 .. try and see if you can get your hands on one :)
Yeah a good 9550 is better than 5700le in directx 9(but weaker in OpenGL) but the thing is, in NP,the ASUS dealer is an idiot. He knew nothing ,I asked for the 9550GE but he said "not available".The 9550td was available, not sure if 256mb or 128mb nor was he sure it was the 128-bit version. On top of that he didnt have it in stock and wanted me to pay half the price in advance!
The powercolor 9550 as I have said should be looked at with caution.Lower-end power color cards have quality problems that are well documented.

MODs , it would be great if available PCI-E gfx cards and prices if possible is
posted here .... :thumbup1:
I think it is important that PCI-E might be the future .... :rolleyes2
it needs update every 3 months............to the post its damn old....most of the card values r down now....
Anyone please recommend a graphics card which can be used on pci slot having transform and lightning, and pixel shading support and can play most of the games. 256MB card is preferrable. My budjet is 3.5k.
Very good I must say, but you haven't mentioned anything about the:-
Geforce 6600GT PCI-Express card.
PLease write a guide on PCI-Express cards....I' am waiting
LORDDAEMON : Anyway I could get the card you got for that price? Tell me the site you bought it from....
The Guide Is Good But Then Its Been There For Quite A While............the Prices Of All Graphics Cards Have Came Down By Now And For All Practical Purposes, A Geforce 6600 Gt 256 Mb Is The Best Buy FOR All Indian Gamers.................it Comes In Kolkata For Approx 9000 Bucks (agp). Pci Versions Cost A Lot Less................
For Casual Gamers Like Me ,options Still Remain To Choose From Ati Radeon Or Nvidia Cards But In Kolkata You Do Not Get Ati Cards Easily.........so Last Week I Got Myself A Geforce 6200 128 Mb Agp 8x (128 Bit Memory Interface)........it Has A Core Clock Speed Of 350 Mhz And Memory Clock Of 500 Mhz..............and The Card Can Be Overclocked To 450 Mhz With No Stability Issues..............it Supports Pixel Shading 3 And Open Gl 2 Which Is Yet To Be Seen In Ati Radeon Counterparts .....and All This Comes In For Only Rs 3900 +vat! So I Guess Thats Not A Bad Deal!
It Plays Doom 3 At High Settings At 1024*768 At 29 Fps Which Is Quite Acceptable I Think.........
As I Say This Card Is Not As Powerful As 6600gt Or Ati X600 But I Would Like To See How It Compares To 9600/9800 Series..........
Speakin Of Fx Series Cards.......they Should Be History By Now.............!!!!!!
