Windows media Player won't play MPEGs.

Windows Media Player installed in my system running windows vista no longer play those . I don't know what went wrong with it. i have crossed checked those those files with Quick Time and they were getting played there, so i am quite sure that there is nothing wrong with the file but there is something wrong with Windows media Player in my case. I have tried installing direct x for media layer as i was using old version of it but that dint made any difference. Has anyone else here faced an issue like this before or has any idea about the same???

I am not sure but i think that your system might not be having required codec installed even though there are multiple other causes for this issue. Anyways you can try downloading and installing gspot software and you should also check out file associations in WMP as well. check out things that i have suggested and revert back to me with your findings for further help.

Yes even i think that your system is not having required codecs and in that case i will suggest you to download and install K-Lite Codec Pack Full. If you want than you can check out Microsoft media player web site for downloading the required codec as well.

I was facing similar issue a week ago and i had tried out all possible solution that i could have but i wasn't able to fix it. I had started using quick time for now but today morning after installing some update i crossed check media player and surprisingly found it playing MPEGs files without any issue. I have reverted back to media player now.
