8603. PS/2 Pointing device error or not connected
I use a Logitech MouseMan wheel USB Mouse with my desktop which is running with Windows XP Pro. Now the problem is whenever I start the computer, before it reaches to desktop I get an error message saying:
“8603. PS/2 Pointing device error or not connected”
However when I press ok, it wont appear again until next reboot and everything works fine. But why is it appearing everytime.
Re: 8603. PS/2 Pointing device error or not connected
Since you are using USB mouse and PS2 port is emplty, it is your mobo’s BIOS notifying you that there's nothing plugged in to the PS/2 mouse port. Very simple. You don’t need to worry about it, infact you can ignore it.
RE: 8603. PS/2 Pointing device error or not connected
Thanks for the info karma, I’m already ignoring it since a week. But why can’t we stop appearing? Isn’t there any way?
Re: 8603. PS/2 Pointing device error or not connected
Yes, you can stop it if you want (of course you want). Just restart the system, enter BIOS by pressing DEL or any assigned key depending on your mobo. Once in BIOS, enable the USB support and disable the PS/2 port. That’s it. Save BIOS and restart again. You wont be getting the error again.
