WGA will not install on my XP home edition
I've searched through the discussions trying to find an answer how to get WGA
installed on my computer. Until this last month, updating has not been a
problem. A few days ago I tried persistantly to get the latest updates after
a month away from home. Each time I came up against a wall with WGA, saying
it failed to install and to look at the installation history for the reason.
I don't find anything about it there, but if I go look in downloaded program
files, it was created 11/12/2004. I do notice in the detail comments during
my attempts to update the following:
Windows Genuine Advantage Validation Tool (KB892130)
0 KB , 0 minutes (Downloaded; ready to install)
The Windows Genuine Advantage Validation Tool enables you to verify that
your copy of Microsoft Windows is genuine. The tool validates your Windows
installation by checking Windows Product Identification and Product
Activation status. After you install this item, you may have to restart your
computer. Once you have installed this item, it cannot be removed.
Total: 0 KB , 0 minutes (Downloaded; ready to install)
I looked yesterday and found a discussion (KB892130) where I followed
through on MowGreen (MVP) suggestions and attached the following thread:
Ok, guess there is an epidemic for WGA failures to install after it says you
have already downloaded.... I've been chasing my tail trying to figure out
what is going on. I found your discussions with gmccaig and topcamel. I've
got the files: Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Windows
Genuine Advantage\data intact, but when I check for the file Machine Keys by
going through Documents and Settings\All Users\Application
Data\Microsoft\Crypto\RSA\ I find that the folder does not exist. You seemed
to be very keen on this. Could you help me out as well? Thanks

Today I went through, disabled WGA in add-ons, restarted the computer,
closed my anti-virus (AVG), MS Anti-spyware & Spybot. Then I tried again to
update with same results. (yes, I did it as quick as possible and restarted
the protection after failure).
I see there is a lot of discussion in and around WGA difficults, but haven't
found yet the answer that will solve my problem. Please, do you have any
suggestions?
Thanks

Re: WGA will not install on my XP home edition
Launch Internet Explorer and from the Toolbar select:
Tools > Internet Options > Settings > View Objects.
Right-click on each item denoted as "Windows Genuine
Advantage Validation Tool" and select "Remove".
Afterward, visit the following web site:

Re: WGA will not install on my XP home edition
Thank you so much Carey Frisch [MVP], you relieved me from a lot of stress
resulting from this WGA problem so many seem to be having...
I followed your intructions and this time the WGA tool installed without a
hitch.
Like gabriel00 who started this thread, I was following the KB892130 thread
and tried the MowGreen (MVP) suggestions but didn't get anywhere.
Now the WGA tool is installed on my computer I can go to the WU site to
check for any new updates, even if I still have to download them manually to
my hard drive first. My auto update option has not worked for a long time...
don't know why.... Mind you, as long as I can check for and get the updates
again, my computer should be ok!!!
Thanks again.
RE: WGA will not install on my XP home edition
Has anyone been successful with the failed install problem? I have tried
turning off firewall and other real time protection, removing WGA from View
Objects. I appear to have the files is mentioned in another post. Can anyone
please help? gabriel00 - have you succeeded yet?
