RE: Updates won't install
Dear Jimbo,
I am having the same problem on two Windows 2000 systems, since about July
20, 2005.
(1) The Client Notification Icon appears and displays
"Updates are ready for your computer."
"Click here to install these updates."
(2) I click and the Icon disappears.
I am seeing numerous errors in my C:\WinNT\System32\WindowsUpdate.log file:
Agent WARNING: Failed to evaluate Installed rule, updateId =
{ED300F67-421C-4C08-B3BA-F35C55F3B427}.100, error = 0x80041017

I have not found any clear support for these problems online.
Best regards,

RE: Updates won't install
Hello Engel
Thank you for your reply and the suggestions therein.
Firstly I tried all the fixes on the support page , eg click, start, run cmd.
cmd prompt etc.
I'm pleased to report that by downloading and running Dial-a-fix in safe
mode. all the
required updates have been downloaded and installed.
To check, i've just visted Updates and none are available for my installation.
Again, many, many thanks for you prompt reply and help that brought a
frustrating couple of days
to a happy conclusion.
RE: Updates won't install

Security Update for Microsoft XML Core Services 4.0 Service Pack 2 (KB936181)
I have also tried running the following as I have had success previously but
not anymore
regsvr32 /s wuapi.dll
regsvr32 /s wuaueng1.dll
regsvr32 /s wuaueng.dll
regsvr32 /s wucltui.dll

regsvr32 /s wuweb.dll
Any other possible solutions would be appreciated
Re: updates won't install
The below command will *usually* resolve update installation failures in
XP, * ESPECIALLY * after the application of SP3 has been done.
regsvr32 wups2.dll

RE: Updates won't install
Hello,
I was having trouble with my laptop installing Windows updates so I read and
did what this post says to do. I added that file to my registry and ran Dial
a Fix. About 10 updates still won't install. And now a new and scarier
problem.....my hard drive of 18 GB is FULL. About a month ago I ran Disk
Defrag and less that 1/2 my hard drive was full. Can you help? What could
have caused my drive to fill up so fast? I've run all kinds of file cleaners
and removed tons of files and still only have 500 MB left of space. Any
ideas what I should do?
Re: Updates won't install
Hi Shenan,
Thanks so much for replying. I know you think it's MY STUFF, but I swear
it's not my files or apps. I just found this folder (that I didn't create and
don't know what it is).
C:\MSOCache\All Users\90000409-6000-11D3-8CFE-0150048383C9
It's got bunches of .CAB files....VERY BIG FILES. What are they and can I
delete them?
