Server is not operational - Domain Trust

He have a setup of Server 2000 Domin and 2003 Domain with external two way trust between both. There is no problem assigning users/devices from the 2003 domain while I’m using Domain 2000. But when I try doing the same from Domain 2003, though this domain use to be there as location, I get the following error message whenever I try to find query for 2003 domain users or groups:

“The following error prevented the display of any items: The Server is not operational.”

Somebody please help me getting rid of the same.

Are you sure your DNS resolution works fine in both domains???

I have this exact same problem. I am on Win2003 computer on a 2000 domain. When I try to enumerate the users on the 2000 domain, I get:

The following error prevented the display of any items:
The Server is not operational.

Please, if any of you have any ideas, it would be greatly appreciated. I noticed someone asked about whether the DNS was set up correctly. On our system, we are using an external DNS and I think it is turned off on the domain controller. Could that be a problem?

Hello Himagiri. The error message you mentioned above occurs probably where use to be no proper response from the server you were requesting to. Apart from this, it could be the DNS issue as well. Hence as of now what I can suggest you is try gathering a network trace (using NETMON or Ethereal) of the problem and see what it shows you. Reply back with the results.
