Microsoft today finally revealed the price of their upcoming Windows 8.1. As said earlier the update will be completely free for all existing Windows 8 users, but the new users who want to upgrade from Windows XP or 7 directly to Win 8.1 will have to pay $119.99. And those how wish to get Pro edition will cost $199.99.
Microsoft will start rolling out 8.1 final edition from October 18th through Windows Update. Users running win 8 or 8.1 Preview can directly get it from there. However it will also be available in DVD Packages. Users can also go with the same.

Hello Maq. Thanks for sharing that useful info. I have a question regarding this.
As of now i am using Windows 7 but have worked for few days on my friend's Windows 8.1. I didn't liked W8 but the new 8.1 seems good and i am planning to upgrade to the same when it comes in final release.
So the thing i wanted to know is what id i upgrade directly from Win 7 to 8.1? Will be transfer my settings and other important stuffs from 7 to 8.1, like it use to do with Win 8 to 8.1 ?

Unless and until you dont go for clean install, yes it will transfer all your files from Win7 to Win 8.1 but the only drawback is, unlike Win8 to 8.1, you will need to re-install all the desktop applications manually. This is because as you might be knowing Win 8 is completely different from earlier versions of windows.

That’s sounds good. So they have made Windows 8.1 too smart which can carry forward the files from older windows also. Now as Microsoft is almost very close to pull off Support for Windows XP, I too am planning to upgrade my XP to Windows 8.1. Lets see.

Hello Tungar, unfortunately you cannot do upgrade from XP to Windows 8.1 as it doesn’t supports transferring files from XP or Vista.
Users running any of these windows (Xp or Vista) will have to do clean install from a bootable DVD like a fresh install.
