How to Upgrade Home and Office Network to new Gigabit?

Hello friends, I want to upgrade the networks to the newer Gigabit. I think that I need to do the following:
1. Install Gigabit network cards in the PCI slots
2. Replace all network switches to Gigabit.
3. Replace the internet router with Gigabit
And I read someplace that the cables themselves, even if they are CAT 5 are ok to keep, so what should I do, should I do the above thing to get the Home and Office Network to new Gigabit, so please suggest me what to do and also what is the method to do. Thank you.

And also the cable, Cat 5E is good, but it needs to transfer large files like movies or something related to that, so I would suggest you to go for the cat 6 cables. And if you want a good performance in your home or office network then you need get the CAT 5E.
