PXE Boot workstation using OSX DHCP Server/Windows PXE Server
I am a power user of the Mac computers. I spend most of my time within the Mac environment. I want to create PXE deployment server or the system where I can set up the stations. I already have a server running with MAC OS X server. It is my DHCP server. I bought an HP server which is going to become a Deployment server. If each server on the same subnet the is it feasible to PXE boot using windows PXE server in combination of the DHCP server?
Re: PXE Boot workstation using OSX DHCP Server/Windows PXE Server
I don’t know much about this. But I will give you some advice. Some tome the PXE Boot seems to require the special kind of windows PXE server and the DHCP server that should be running on another port. For PXE (Pre-Boot eXecution Environment) deployment system , set a boot server with following services.
- Request an IP address via DHCP and Download a kernel via TFTP
If your Mac OS X DHCP server offer these services then there is no problem at all. And also it should boot without an OS installed on it .
Re: PXE Boot workstation using OSX DHCP Server/Windows PXE Server
In order to create a PXE boot environment you will need a several resources.
- you must have a wired LAN
- Computer or a server with PXE biddable hardware or peripherals
- A good DHCP server with decent configurable feature
- The latest Trinity Rescue Kit(TRK).
- A TFTP server and the NFS server( Linux or other than Windows OS)
Re: PXE Boot workstation using OSX DHCP Server/Windows PXE Server
I am very sorry to say this that I don’t have any information about the capability of the Mac OS X DHCP server. The HP server allows a PXE boot. PXE is used for the new or the existing computer to boot its resources over the network (prefer LAN mostly). Boot may be either the software or the Operating System. There is HP product called HP Insight Rapid Deployment Software Pack which will automate the deployment process.
