CPU at 100% until I disabled the Ethernet adapter
We bought a new Acer AS5532-5535 laptop about a month ago.
When booting, the laptop CPU was at 100% for 10 or 15 minutes. No one process was responsible. Every little process was consuming 30-50% of the CPU--taskmg.exe, dwm.exe, explorer.exe, and so on. After 10-15 minutes, it would act normally.
I tried using msconfig to disable ALL items in Startup, then ALL services. Nothing worked until I used the Device Manager to disable the Ethernet port.
The driver for that port comes with Windows 7. Acer does not provide its own. When I try to reinstall it, Windows tells me I already have the most current driver.
Acer is no help so far. I get irrelevant automated responses from tech support.
Ideas?
Thanks.
Re: CPU at 100% until I disabled the Ethernet adapter
I was facing the same problem with my ACER 5738. The fault was with the motherboard. I got the motherboard replaced from ACER as the the laptop is was under warranty cover. If your laptop is also under warranty cover get the motherboard replaced very soon.
Re: CPU at 100% until I disabled the Ethernet adapter
I think that this is not a motherboard problem. Your system might have been affected by some malwares or viruses which is consuming all the memory. So try to install some Antivirus if you have not installed it, and if you have it then scan it and try to heal all the infections. If you still face this problem the you have to reinstall the Operating System.
Re: CPU at 100% until I disabled the Ethernet adapter
This generally depends on the number of application programs you might have installed in the system. Also the system may not be processed with enough memory to execute and access the programs. Check out by uninstalling unwanted program applications. Free up your memory space by deleting temporary files or run a disk cleanup wizard.
