Add a network drive to an SBS 2008 backup job?
I’m running a SBS 2008 domain and all users folders are shared on a Dell NAS server. I wanted to know whether I can modify the SBS 2008 backup job to backup a remote share? If yes please tell me how because I try doing it, it only shows locals drives to add to the current backup job. I’m not able to get it done any way. Please help.
Re: Add a network drive to an SBS 2008 backup job?
As far as I know SBS 2008 won’t support backup to Network Share. The server’s backup engine is only designed to backup to "block device" so that it can completely control. The only workout left for this is to use iSCSI. You can also go with software such as StarWind on the network server to allow it to behave as an iSCSI SAN, and this will allow you to use the native iSCSI initiator in Windows Server 2008 to mount the remote storage as a volume on your SBS 2008 server. Hope it helps.

Yes that is correct. Once you will connect your SBS server with ISCSI, it will work similar to local drives. The share made here will exactly work as sharing from a local HDD.
