D-Link DFP 410X - Expansion Module
Description :
The D-Link DFP 410X is a 10-Gigabit XFP module which is compatible with DGS-3400 series gigabit switches.
The D-Link XFP module provides high-speed 10-Gigabit connection on the secure fiber cable. It provides a single or dual XFP slots and can be slid into an open slot of a D-Link Gigabit switch. A number of 10Gigabit transceivers are available for selection for installation in the XFP slot. Data transfer is operated in the full-duplex mode at 20 Gigabits per second on either the multi-mode or single-mode fiber network cable, depending on the type of transceiver being installed.
The D-Link XFP module allows flexible deployment of 10-Gigabitconnection and is ideal for bandwidth-hungry applications that can meet greater cable distances and low signal interference requirements in the Local Area Network, Wide Area Network and Metropolitan Area Network.
Product Features :
- 1 XFP Slots for Installation of XFP Transceivers
- Up to 20Gbps Full Duplex Per Port
- IEEE 802.3ae Compliance
- Installable in DGS-3400 and DXS-3300 Series Gigabit Switches
- Supports XFP MSA Compliant Transceivers
- Ideal for Server/LAN Backbone (300 m Fiber Cable Distance), Campus Backbone (10 km Fiber Cable Distance), WAN & MAN Deployment (40 km Fiber Cable Distance)

How to enable file sharing with other computers ?
Before following the instructions below, make sure that you have already installed and configured your network adapter and its drivers.
Step 1
Start up Windows. If you are asked to log in, be sure to enter your user name and password. Click the Start button. Select Settings and Control Panel and click the Network icon.
Step 2
Click on the Configuration Window tab. If you see File and printer sharing for Microsoft Networks in the list of items that appears, close the Control Panel and go to Enabling File Sharing or How to Share Printers below. Otherwise, go to step 3.
Step 3
Click on the File and Print Sharing button.
Step 4
If you want other users to be able to access your files, use your mouse to put a check mark next to the I want to be able to give others access to my files option. If you want others to be able to use printer(s) that are plugged into your computer, put a check mark next to the I want to allow others to print to my printers option. When youre finished, click OK. Youll now see the File and printer sharing for Microsoft Networks line in the Configuration list box. (If you dont see it, you might need to use the scroll bars to scroll through the list). Click OK. When asked if you want to restart your computer, click Yes.
Enabling File Sharing
After following steps 1-4 above, double-click the My Computer icon. A window of available disk drives will appear. Using your right mouse button, click once on the drive, or open the drive and right click on the folder that you want to make available to other users. Click Sharing and then click the Sharing tab. Click Share As. Enter your drive or folder name in the Share Name box (you can call it whatever you want--Marys Computer, etc.).
Next, decide on the type of access that you want to give other users. Read-Only access lets other users view the files on your PC. Full access lets users create, change, or delete files on your system. Depends on Password lets users have Read-Only and/or Full access, depending on the password that you decide to share with them.
Use your mouse to select the type of file sharing access that you want other users to have. If you want to assign access password(s), type them into the Password box(es). When youre done, click the Apply button. Then, click OK. Your drive(s) can now be accessed from other users whenever they click on their Windows 95 Network Neighborhood icons. If a user tries to access one of your drives thats password-protected, he or she will be asked for the appropriate Read-Only or Full access password. After the item is shared you will see a hand appear underneath the folder or hard disk.
You do not need to set up anything on the switch in regards to file/printer sharing on local network. If you are having troubles with file sharing or Internet sharing on your network, you need to modify some settings in Windows.

Slow data transfer speeds
The first thing to check is the cable's pinout. Make sure that you are using category 5 UTP or STP cables and the pin layout follows Fast Ethernet requirements (pins 1&2 and 3&6 are pairs. See the example below). Make sure that the cable length is not more than 100m. For Gigabit connections network cable Cat.5E or Cat.6 is recommended.
Example of Pin Layout :
1- white/orange
2- orange
3- white/green
4- blue
5- white/blue
6- green
7- white/brown
8- brown
Please note that the cable with incorrect pinout will work OK on 10 Mbps connection. 100Mbps connection may work on shorter cables (e.g 2m) but will fail on longer cables.
