Hi,
I must suggest you to check the properties in control panel sound.
you might have the option to use jacks as seperate inputs.

First you need to find out where is the problem?
Your headphones or the Machine(driver)
Please check if your headphone works with your friends computer.
IF it works then the problem is with your Computer & you need to reinstall the sound driver & check if headphone works or not.
I hope this helps.

Ok lets do a quick check.
Control panel - Hardware/sound - Manage Audio/Device "SPEAKER/HEAD PHONE"
If you see only SPEAKER then select it & & click on properties & set DEVICE USAGE.
Enable & apply - OK
