hi ,
my windows get hung on the "preparing network connections" screen where i am able to use Task Manager also my internet connection is working fine with d-link adsl router but dont know why this happens network cards shows fine in devicemanager so can any one knows about this issue any solution ?

Check that number of Local Area Connections present in Network connections. XP stores all NIC/LACs and that may be reason for confusion so hang for currently lac using. also check the properties of the NIC with Advanced and check for proper settings.
Check for the supporting network card driver also update the drivers to latest one from web. also check for latest install application which cause conflict for network adapter and cause hang mainly check security firewall, antivirus application.also check corrupted installation of such program and also try to clean the registry if required.
while for me that was NICs problem so check that NICs have EEPROMs?then i had to flash them and from the manufacturer's website updated BIOS That solved my problem .
