Best wireless channel for Linksys router
I purchased a wireless Linksys router from one of my friend. While configuration i got an option to choose a wireless channel out of 11 options. Is there any difference in these channels ? If yes, which is the best channel for my Linksys router ? Please help.
Re: Best wireless channel for Linksys router
Wireless routers can broadcast on several different channels, similar to the way radio stations use different channels.Channels are important to understand because they affect the overall capacity of your WLAN. Just like you'll sometimes hear interference on one radio station while another is perfectly clear, sometimes one wireless channel is clearer than others. Cordless phones, Bluetooth devices and microwave ovens may use the same frequencies as your wireless networking equipment. If you suspect that these appliances are interfering with your wireless network, try experimenting with different channels.
Try changing your wireless router's channel through your router's configuration page to see if your signal strength improves. You don't need to change your computer's configuration, because it'll automatically detect the new channel.
Re: Best wireless channel for Linksys router
If you have no interference, then default Channel 6 should be okay. If you have interference tehn start moving to either end of the spectrum (Channels 1 & 11) and work your way back to the middle until you find a good signal.nnel of 6 like the Linksys router. If you're encountering interference from other devices, try changing channels to get around these interferences. To change the channel your wireless network is using, you have to go to the router's web-based setup page to accomplish this:-
Access the router's web-based setup page and click Wireless.
Look for Wireless Channel and change it to your desired channel. The recommended channels are 1, 6, or 11 since they are considered non-overlapping channels.Once done Click on Save. Thats it !!
Re: Best wireless channel for Linksys router
These channels do not "Overlap" with any other channels, and will give the clearest signal. Each channel is capable of carrying the maximum throughput for its standard. The frequency ranges and channels may vary by country. In the U.S. there are 11 channels to choose from that the 802.11b (2.4 GHz) standard operate on. All but three of those channels are overlapping channels. Channels 1, 6, and 11 are the only non-overlapping channels. Most manufactures set their default channel to one of the non-overlapping channels. After changing the channel, click on the Save Settings button on the "Basic Wireless Settings" screen, then a page will appear prompting that the settings were successful, and when that page appears, click on the Continue button.
