Re: Disable Memory Diagnostic Tool in Vista
Before you disable the Memory Diagnostic Tool, i would like to say that this is a utility program that diagnose your computer’s memory as to the cause of the problem and list the errors it finds. So i think you must use it. But anyways heres how you can disable diagnostic tool on your vista computer:-
- Open your command prompt with Administrator rights from Start menu > programs > accessories.
- Now click on Continue in the User Access Control (UAC) prompt.
- Now type ”bcdedit /bootsequence {memdiag} /remove” in the console
- Press Enter key to execute the command.
- And reboot the computer. Thats it You are done !!
Re: Disable Memory Diagnostic Tool in Vista
I was also facing the same problem with Diagnostic tool on my vista. After it scans the memory, it went directly to loading Vista and does not give me a report of the diagnostic scan result. Thanks for sharing this tip to disable the tool.
Re: Disable Memory Diagnostic Tool in Vista
If you want to stop the memory diagnostic scan at any time press Esc on your keyboard. If you have any errors they will show up while it scans and a report will be given to you the next time your computer boots up.If memory diagnostic finds errors in your memory it’s time to replace your computer’s memory. In case you need to start this tool again than the easiest way is to do so from the Windows Boot Manager when you reboot your computer. To do this remove all bootable CDs and DVDs and start your computer. After the BIOS information is shown on the screen, and as there is pause with a black screen before Windows normally starts, you would press your spacebar key. This would put you into the Windows Boot Manager. Now follow the instructions
Re: Disable Memory Diagnostic Tool in Vista
I figured this problem out after two long days of searching and deleting registry keys... all to no avail.
It turns out that you simply need to disable a task in Task Scheduler to make MemRes.exe stop running with Windows.
In Vista:
Click Start button, type "Task Scheduler", hit enter
Click "Task Scheduler Library" on the left
Click "Microsoft"
Click "Windows"
You should now be able to see the MemDiag task in the middle section of the window...
Right Click it and you should have an option to delete or disable it. Your choice...
