Re: How can i replace notepad in Windows Vista
You need to just follow the below steps mention.
- Just open your command-prompt with administrator priveleges (right-click, run as administrator). If you have UAC disabled then you can open a regular command-prompt.
- Take ownership of notepad.exe using takeown /f c:\windows\system32\notepad.exe
- Then have a full access rights using cacls c:\windows\system32\notepad.exe /G <username>:F (replacing <username> with your username)
- Then by using Explorer, replace notepad.exe with the editor you would like to use after renaming it to notepad.exe
- If by chance you are using Notepad2 to replace Notepad you would just need to rename Notepad2.exe to Notepad.exe
Re: How can i replace notepad in Windows Vista
1) First you need to download notepad2 from the free website
2) Then you need to Rename Notepad2.exe to notepad.exe.
3) Then try to find c:\windows\notepad.exe and c:\windows\system32\notepad.exe and set the owner to ‘Administrators’, and grant Administrators full control.
4) Then by using Windows Explorer, drag and drop the renamed notepad2.exe to c:\windows and c:\windows\system32.
