BlackBerry Storm 2 images leaked
BlackBerry’s first ever handset to be equipped with a touchscreen raised quite a ‘Storm’ in the industry even though it lacked a little in various aspects. A rumor circulated a while ago that RIM was planning to launch a second Storm device and fill in the blanks of features that the original came without. That rumor is now apparently becoming a reality as reports are coming in of leaked images of what could very well be the next generation Blackberry Storm handset.
The upcoming BlackBerry Storm 2 is expected to come to the market with a wide range of improvements over the previous version, including a new soft keyboard, which was rumored at one point to come as a “new approach to text entry.” Now we learn that it has been tweaked, but it does not feature radical changes from the earlier version.
As you can see in the photos, the handset looks quite thin, and it seems that RIM replaced the fourth button with some touch-sensitive controls. Although there are no exact details on the capabilities of the BlackBerry Storm 2, most of the improvements it should come with, compared to the existing model, are expected to be included under the hood, so we'll have to wait for more info on it to surface.
Pictures are great, but is there any useful information we can glean from these revelations? Absolutely. Here are a few snippets:
- Will launch on Verizon
- Features WiFi in addition to GPS
- 3.2 MP Camera with autofocus
- Thinner and more streamlined feel
- New touchscreen technology called TruePress, compared to SurePress on current version
Frankly, from these pics it doesn’t seem as though it’s really all that different from the original one. If the only major changes are those listed above, will it be worth upgrading to the new one? Please take a look at the pics that follow and let us know what you can see, and also let us know if this upcoming handset is one you’re planning to get.

The new Storm seems to have a thinner but wider body and a 3.2 megapixel camera. The 3.2 megapixel camera supports auto focusing and has a LED flash for low light photography. Boy genius suggested that it will launch on Verizon and feature Wi-Fi and a new screen technology called TruePress as opposed to the current Storm’s SurePress.

Looking at the photos, you can see it shares its physical appearance with both the original BlackBerry Storm and the yet unreleased BlackBerry Onyx/Driftwood. It looks nice and thin. And the buttons at the bottom now appear to be a touch-sensitive part of the screen too.

Not much else to say at this point until we can get one in our hands, the photos really speak for themselves. As it was going to hit the market in the month of September, according to the sources.
