I've got the exact same problems. For just about the same period of time, it was a service issue but not sure the problem is same in your case. Try uninstalling through add/remove in control panel, then re-install, i hope it will work.

No need to run it as root, just remove the following directories:
~/.config/Google
~/.googleearth
Into terminal type:
Code:
sudo rm -rf ~/.config/Google
sudo rm -rf ~/.googleearth
and run it as normal user.

Try removing, then reinstalling Google Earth. Take the time to write down all the code in About Google Earth before you do, so you can reinstall it properly when done.or Maybe one of your placemarks has been corrupted. What happens when you move the "myplaces.kml" file to your desktop before initializing GE?

i have almost the same problem: it is being very slow, and Locations are shown in a rectangular white box????
i have a very high speed internet so it's not from the connection's speed and i tried on another pc it's working just fine.
please help.

Because WindowsVista ia more pro then Windows Xp.A Windows Xp is more slow then Windows Vista.Try to install it again.:notworthy

well i think i know what's the problem:

You can use Google chrome web browser. it is really good
