Set 64 bit Media player for Vista x64
I have Windows Vista x64 operating system in my laptop. By default i am having a 32 bit Windows Media Player installed in my OS. But i want to us the 64 bit version of windows media player in my system. As the 64 bit version of media player has FFDshow codec. It can virtually decode any audio or video file. And on the other hand media player 32 bit version does not support it. So, what is the way to set the 64 bit windows media player in my system.
Re: Set 64 bit Media player for Vista x64
In Vista x64, the 32 bit version of media player is set default. This is to reduce any compatibitility issue arise due to codecs and plug-ins.
Well, if you want to use the 64 bit edition of Windows Media player 11 you need to just do the following thing.
The 32 bit edition of windows media player is located in -
C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Media Player\wmplayer.exe
And the 64 bit edition of windows media player is located in -
C:\Program Files\Windows Media Player\wmplayer.exe
So, just open my computer and browse to the folder and place the shortcut on the desktop.
Re: Set 64 bit Media player for Vista x64
The 32 bit media player is set by default in Vista x64 to avoid the compatibility issues.
It set default and you can configure it by the following method.
By default, the 32-bit windows media player 11 x86 is located at path of %ProgramFiles(x86)%\Windows Media Player.
And the 64-bit windows media player 11 x64 is located at folder of
%ProgramFiles%\Windows Media Player
So click on Start Menu > Run > and enter the above location of 64bit edition and press ok.
You can also create the shorcut for the above path on the desktop for easy access.
Re: Set 64 bit Media player for Vista x64
Try this to change to x64 of Windows Media player.
Log in as Administrator.
Go to Start Menu > Accessories > Right click on Command Prompt >
Select as Run as > Administrator > Type the following command.
%windir%\system32\unregmp2.exe /SwapTo:64
Then go to Start Menu > Run > Type regedit.exe
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Paths\wmplayer.exe.
Then set the registry subkey “Path” to -
%Programfiles(x86)%\Windows Media Player
(Default) subkey (normally the first entry) to -
%ProgramFiles%\Windows Media Player\wmplayer.exe” (include quotes).
This will set the 64 bit version of Windows media player.
