Can't copy/move to network shares
Hello, I have a Vista laptop that can no longer copy or move files to any XP or Samba network shares. This was working at one time, but has since stopped. I receive the following error when trying to copy a file from my local drive. There is a problem accessing (path to local file) Please check your network connection etc..etc.. I have turned off the firewall and windows defender, network discovery in on and file sharing enabled(with password auth disabled). the workgroup is set correctly... I've tried disabling UAC to no avail......Like I said this just stopped working...(maybe after a windows update)?? Any help would be greatly appreciated...Thanks
I'm running Vista home premium 32-bit
What I can do on the same network shares.
1.Create a new file/folder
2.Copy/move a file from the network share to my Vista machine.
Re: Can't copy/move to network shares
Check out and make sure that your Firewall is not interfering and also check out whether that particular file your are trying to copy is not in used. If it fails then you can try in safe mode with networking.

Hey!
Well as you don't remeber what went wrong and as you mentioned it may be caused by windows update. Try to restore your system at a previous point when there was no problem. May be that would help... Vista is too buggy...!
Re: Can't copy/move to network shares
Came across this under the control Panel
Go to the Control Panel
Open Programs and Features
Click on " Turn windows features on or off" on the left side of the panel
Uncheck "Remote Differential Compression"
OR
The copy process may stop responding when you try to copy files from a server on a network to a Windows Vista-based computer

Re: Can't copy/move to network shares
Since you have already disabled all the programs defending the file sharing, there should be no reason that you can't copy or move the files on the network places. Do one thing - Right click on the file or folder you want to copy/move to the network places. Select security and sharing option. Check the box saying Share this folder on the network...

Unfortunately this is a computer for an employee I support and copying files to the network isn't necessarily a daily event for this person so trying to correlate a time when this stopped working with a good restore point isn't possible..
